In the late eighteenth century the Prince of Anhalt Dessau made his entire principality into a huge and beautiful garden, to delight and instruct his people as well as himself and his family. Miraculously preserved from the ravages of war and industrial development, much of his work survived the falls of empires and is now being restored.
